How to reset your tolerance.

Daily cannabis use builds tolerance — your CB1 receptors downregulate. The same dose produces less effect. T-breaks reverse this. 7-14 days off restores meaningful sensitivity. Below: how tolerance builds, when to break, microdose alternatives.

Section

How tolerance builds.

Daily THC exposure causes CB1 receptors to downregulate (decrease in number) and desensitize (reduce response). Within 2-4 weeks of regular use, the same dose produces noticeably less effect. The receptor system adapts.

Section

The 7-14 day reset.

Stop all cannabis use for 7 days minimum, 14 days for full reset. CB1 receptors upregulate within the first week. By day 10-14, sensitivity returns close to baseline. The first session post-break: start at 50% of your previous dose to avoid surprise.

Section

The microdose alternative.

If a full T-break feels impossible, try microdosing instead. 2.5mg edible every 2-4 hours during the workday, then a normal session at night. Studies suggest microdose patterns slow tolerance build vs continuous heavy use.

7 days minimum, 14 days for full reset. CB1 receptors upregulate within the first week; sensitivity returns close to baseline by day 10-14. Post-break first session: take 50% of your previous dose to avoid surprise from restored sensitivity.

Common questions

Common questions.

Can I just lower my dose instead?
Helpful but slower. CB1 receptor downregulation responds best to abstinence. Reducing dose helps you not climb the tolerance ladder, but doesn't reset it like a 7-14 day break.
Will a 3-day break work?
Marginal. CB1 upregulation takes 7+ days to be meaningful. You may notice slight sensitivity return after 3 days, but full reset benefit kicks in around day 10-14.
Is CBD okay during a T-break?
Yes. CBD doesn't significantly bind CB1 receptors, so it doesn't interfere with the THC tolerance reset. Many people use CBD-only products during T-breaks for sleep + anxiety support.
