THC produces the high. CBD doesn't.

THC is the intoxicating compound responsible for the cannabis high. CBD is non-intoxicating and produces effects on stress, inflammation, and the way THC feels when both are present. Used together in ratio products, they create something different from either alone.

What THC actually does

The intoxicating cannabinoid.

THC (delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol) is the primary intoxicating compound in cannabis. It binds primarily to CB1 receptors throughout the brain and central nervous system — producing the classic effects: euphoria, altered perception, time distortion, increased appetite, body relaxation. Most modern flower tests in the 18-28% THC range; concentrates 60-90%.

What CBD actually does

CBD (cannabidiol) is non-intoxicating. It does not significantly bind CB1, so it doesn’t produce a high. Instead, CBD engages CB2 receptors (immune system, peripheral tissue) and serotonin (5-HT1A) receptors — producing effects associated with stress relief, inflammation modulation, and anxiolytic action.

THC binds CB1 receptors throughout the brain + CNS to produce the cannabis high. CBD does not significantly bind CB1 and is non-intoxicating, instead engaging CB2 + serotonin receptors to produce effects on stress and inflammation. Used together in ratio products, CBD reduces the racing-mind quality of higher THC doses while preserving body relaxation and mood lift.

How CBD changes the THC experience

A 5mg THC + 5mg CBD edible (1:1 ratio) produces a session that feels distinctly more grounded than a 5mg THC-only edible. CBD reduces the racing-mind, anxiety-prone quality some shoppers experience while preserving the body relaxation + mood lift of the THC.

Higher CBD ratios (2:1, 4:1) tilt further toward grounded calm without sacrificing the cannabinoid’s wellness benefits.

When to choose CBD-only

  • Workday compatibility — no high required.
  • Anxiety-prone shopper exploring cannabis carefully.
  • Wellness-only goals (sleep, stress, recovery).
  • Drug testing concerns (CBD-only products test < 0.3% THC).

When to choose THC-dominant

  • You want the intoxicating effect.
  • Recreational session — social, evening, creative.
  • Strong appetite stimulation, sleep onset, body relaxation needs.

When to choose ratio products (1:1, 2:1)

  • Anxiety history but want some lift.
  • Sensitive to high THC.
  • Want sustained body relaxation w/o racing mind.
  • The 1:1 tincture is our most-popular ratio product. We recommend it most often for first-time shoppers w/ anxiety history.

THC vs CBD FAQ

Cannabinoid questions.

What is the difference between THC and CBD?
THC binds to CB1 cannabinoid receptors throughout the brain and central nervous system to produce the cannabis high. CBD does not significantly bind CB1 and is non-intoxicating, instead engaging CB2 and serotonin receptors to produce effects on stress and inflammation. Used together in ratio products, CBD reduces the racing-mind quality of higher THC doses while preserving body relaxation and mood lift.
Is CBD legal everywhere?
In NY, CBD products from licensed dispensaries are regulated under the same OCM framework as THC products. Federal hemp-derived CBD products with <0.3% THC by dry weight are federally legal. Always check state-by-state for specifics.
Can CBD interact with medications?
Yes. CBD can affect how some prescription medications metabolize through the liver — particularly blood thinners, certain seizure medications, and some antidepressants. Consult your healthcare provider before adding CBD if you take prescription meds.
