Eight steps from door to session.
If your reference point for cannabis comes from decades-old movies, the prospect can feel slightly intimidating. It shouldn’t. Below is the actual sequence — what to bring, what happens at the door, what to buy, how to dose, and what not to do.
Before you arrive.
Bring three things.
- Valid government photo ID showing you’re 21 or older. Driver’s license, state ID, passport, military ID, or tribal ID. Out-of-state IDs are accepted.
- Cash or PIN-required debit. No credit cards (federal banking restrictions on cannabis). ATM is on-site if you forget cash.
- An idea of what you’re hoping to feel — sleep, social, focus, calm — or just curiosity. We narrow the menu in 5 minutes either way.
Walking in.
A budtender greets you at the door and checks your ID. The shop is small and warm, more like a modern apothecary than the stereotype. There’s no pressure to buy. Many of our regulars came in once just to ask questions and look at the menu before placing an order on a return trip.
The budtender consultation.
Tell the budtender two things: your experience level and what you want to feel. With those two anchors the recommendation pool drops from 200+ SKUs to four or five solid options in about five minutes.
The budtender will explain what’s on each shortlisted product card — strain, terpene profile, THC %, format, lab COA. Ask anything. The budtender’s job is to help you decide, not to sell you the most expensive option.
What to buy on a first visit.
Safest first purchases:
- 5mg edible (or split a 10mg gummy in half). Easiest dose to control. Onset 60-90 min.
- Half-gram pre-roll of 18-22% sativa or balanced hybrid. Easy to titrate one inhalation at a time. Onset 1-5 min.
- 1:1 CBD-blend tincture. Mildest effect. Good for very low-dose exploration.
Dosing & timing.
Edibles: Onset 60-90 min. Peak effects 90-120 min after consumption. Total duration 4-6 hr. Wait 90 minutes before redosing. Always. The single most common first-time mistake is taking a second dose before the first has fully kicked in.
Inhaled cannabis (flower, pre-roll, vape): Onset 1-5 min. Peak effects 15-30 min. Total duration 1-3 hr. Wait 5 minutes between inhalations.
The single most common first-time mistake is taking a second dose before the first has fully kicked in. Set a 90-minute timer for edibles before considering more.
What to expect during the session.
Calm setting. Hydrate. Don’t drive — even after the peak. Don’t operate machinery. Effects from edibles fade over 4-6 hours total. From inhaled cannabis, 1-3 hours.
If the session goes uncomfortable: hydrate, eat something starchy, find a calm space, and consider a CBD tincture. CBD modulates an over-THC reaction. You’re not in physical danger — but it can be unpleasant. Call us if you need guidance: (607) 654-4115.
What not to do.
- Don’t mix with alcohol on a first session. The interaction is unpredictable.
- Don’t take a second dose before the first kicks in.
- Don’t consume in the parking lot or on the street. Illegal in NY. Take it home or to a private residence where consumption is legal.
- Don’t drive. Cannabis impairs reaction time, judgment, and coordination. NY enforces DUI for cannabis.
- Don’t cross state lines with cannabis purchased in NY. Federal law prohibits transport across state borders.
After your visit.
Reflect on what worked. Note dose + product (your phone’s notes app is enough). Most second visits are easier because you have a baseline. If something didn’t work, come back and tell us — we recalibrate.
