Your first dispensary visit, step by step.

Walking into a licensed dispensary for the first time should feel less like "a dispensary visit" and more like walking into any other specialty retail store — knowledgeable staff, clean fixtures, real product on display, and a conversation that treats you like an adult.

What to bring

Three things in your pocket.

  • Government-issued photo ID showing 21+. Driver’s license, state ID, passport, military ID, or tribal ID. Out-of-state IDs accepted.
  • Cash or PIN-required debit. Federal banking rules block credit cards at all NY dispensaries. ATM on-site if you forget cash.
  • An idea — or just curiosity. Tell us what you want to feel and we narrow the menu in 5 minutes.

Walking in: ID check, the floor, the budtender

A budtender greets you at the door and checks your ID. The shop is small and warm — more like a small modern apothecary than the stereotype. There’s no pressure to buy. Many of our regulars came in once just to ask questions and look at the menu before placing an order on a return trip.

The conversation: 3 questions that get you the right product

Tell the budtender three things and they’ll filter the menu in five minutes:

  1. What’s the safest starting format for me?
  2. What’s the dominant terpene on this strain?
  3. What dose should I actually start with?

Your first product (and the format we recommend most)

Your first dose, your first session

  1. 01

    Comfortable setting

Familiar room. Low pressure. Nothing scheduled for the next 4 hours.

  2. 02

    Take the dose

1-2.5mg edible OR 5mg tincture sublingual OR one small pull from a vape. Start lower than you think necessary.

  3. 03

    Wait

Edible: 90 min. Sublingual: 30-60 min. Inhaled: 30 min. Then re-evaluate.

  4. 04

    Take notes

Phone notes. Dose. Product. How it felt. Most second visits are easier because you have a baseline.

When to come back (and what to ask next time)

Come back when you’ve learned something. Tell the budtender what worked + what didn’t. We recalibrate from your data. Most second-visit conversations focus on terpene profile fine-tuning + format experimentation. By visit three, most shoppers know what works for them.

ID check at the door (government photo ID, 21+), clean retail floor with products on display, and a budtender conversation guided by your goals + experience level. Bring cash or PIN-debit (no credit), come with questions, plan to start with a low-dose format (1:1 tincture or 2.5mg edible).

First-time FAQ

Common worries.

What should a first-time customer expect at a New York dispensary?
Brief ID check at the door (government-issued photo ID, 21+), a clean retail floor with products on display, and a budtender conversation guided by your goals and experience level. Bring cash or a debit card (no credit), come with questions, and plan to start with a low-dose format like a 1:1 tincture or a 2.5mg edible.
Do I need to know what I want before I walk in?
No. Many of our regulars came in once just to ask questions and look at the menu before placing an order on a return trip. Tell the budtender at the door it's your first time and they'll start with two questions: experience level + what you want to feel.
What if I have anxiety about trying cannabis?
Start with CBD-only or a 1:1 CBD:THC ratio at very low dose (1-2.5mg THC). The 1:1 tincture is the most popular ratio product on our menu and is what we recommend most often for first-time shoppers with anxiety history. Pure CBD is also a legitimate path.
