Cannabis has been intensively crossbred since the 1970s. Modern cultivators select for cannabinoid content, terpene profile, yield, mold resistance — not pure indica or sativa lineage. ~95%+ of commercial strains today are hybrids, even when packaging labels them as one or the other.
"Indica-dominant hybrid" tilts toward body relaxation (myrcene-led, linalool support). "Sativa-dominant hybrid" tilts toward uplift (limonene + pinene leads). "Balanced hybrid" sits in the middle (often 1:1 CBD:THC ratios or terpinolene-led for the elevated-but-organized creative sweet spot).
Common hybrid names: Wedding Cake, Blue Dream, GSC (Girl Scout Cookies), Gelato, OG Kush, Sour Diesel, Pineapple Express, White Widow, AK-47, Trainwreck. Each tilts indica or sativa depending on phenotype + cultivator. Ask a budtender to filter by terpene + intended effect.
