"Best" is mostly subjective. Here's how to decide.
"Best dispensary in Corning" sounds like a sales pitch and it usually is. We don't think it should be. This page lays out four objective criteria that actually matter, where Union Chill ranks honestly on each, and a six-question checklist you can use at any dispensary.
Four criteria, plain English.
"Best" in cannabis retail is mostly subjective, but the criteria that actually matter are surprisingly consistent across shopper types. The four below show up in customer feedback for every dispensary in the region. We rate ourselves honestly on each.
| Criterion | What it means | Union Chill rating |
|---|---|---|
| Budtender quality | Knowledge depth, willingness to spend time, ability to translate jargon, comfort saying "I don't know." | Strong 10–15 min consultations standard. Hire for product knowledge + personality before speed. |
| Menu depth | How many SKUs, how often they rotate, range of formats, breadth of cultivators. | Strong 200+ SKUs, weekly flower rotation, 15+ NY-licensed cultivators, all 7 product categories. |
| Pricing transparency | Clear menu prices, predictable tax math, no surprise fees, value at all price tiers. | Strong Pre-tax prices on menu; budget 1/8ths under $30; premium craft up to $60. Tax breakdown shown at checkout. |
| Store atmosphere | Calm vs frenetic. Welcoming vs intimidating. Designed for browsing or for in/out throughput. | Strong Small, warm, low-pressure. No neon. No sales quotas. Built for browsing + consultation. |
Honest disqualification — when not us.
This section is unusual on a "best dispensary" page. We’re writing it anyway because losing a sale to a store that genuinely fits you is better than winning a sale by overselling.
We would rather lose a sale to a competitor that genuinely fits a particular shopper better than win a sale by overselling.
Use this at any dispensary.
Print it. Bring it to a competitor visit. A store that scores yes on all six is a strong fit. A store that scores no on three or more is probably not the right home.
- 01Are budtenders willing to talk you out of a SKU that doesn't fit you?
- 02Can you see and verify the COA for any product before you buy?
- 03Are prices clearly posted, with tax math explained at checkout?
- 04Is the staff trained to recommend at low-dose for first-timers (not just upsell)?
- 05Does the store carry both budget tier (~$25-30 1/8ths) and premium craft tier?
- 06Is the shopping floor calm enough for a 10-15 min consultation?
If you’re doing the comparison.
- Photo ID — required to enter any dispensary.
- The six-question checklist above.
- One specific question you actually need answered — see how the budtender handles it. Knowledge + comfort = signal.
- Cash or PIN debit — if you decide to buy.
- An open mind — the right shop for you may not be us.
