Adult-use marijuana

What "marijuana dispensary" means in New York.

Marijuana dispensaries in NY operate under a different regulatory framework than the medical-only dispensaries that came before legalization. Under the 2021 MRTA, the state established a two-track program — adult-use (21+, no card) and medical (patient-only, certification required). Union Chill is adult-use only.

Regulatory framework

The two-track NY cannabis program.

Under the Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act of 2021 (MRTA), the state of New York established a two-track cannabis program. The medical track (predates MRTA) serves registered patients with practitioner-issued certification. The adult-use track (post-MRTA) serves any adult 21+ with a valid photo ID — no card, no doctor visit, no patient registry.

Most CAURD-licensed retailers (including us) operate adult-use only. A handful of vertically-integrated operators run both. The product overlap is large but pricing and tax structures differ.

Union Chill is an adult-use marijuana dispensary licensed under the NY OCM CAURD program (license #OCM-CAURD-25-000269). Open to any adult 21+ with valid government-issued photo ID. No medical card required. No prescription needed. Operating since 2025.

Marijuana FAQ

Common questions about adult-use dispensaries.

What is the difference between a marijuana dispensary and a medical dispensary?
Adult-use marijuana dispensaries (like ours) serve adults 21+ with photo ID — no medical card or doctor recommendation needed. Medical-only dispensaries serve registered NY medical cannabis patients with practitioner-issued certification. Different inventory, different tax structure, different eligibility.
Do I need a medical card?
No. Adult-use dispensaries do not require a medical card. Just a valid government-issued 21+ photo ID at the door.
What's on a marijuana dispensary menu?
Seven product categories: flower, pre-rolls, vapes, edibles, concentrates, tinctures, topicals. Each NY-licensed cultivator + lab-tested per batch. Browse our live menu to see current inventory.
Are out-of-state IDs accepted?
Yes. PA, NJ, OH, MD, VT, and other state IDs are accepted. Cannabis purchased in NY must be consumed in NY where legal — federal law prohibits transport across state lines.
